Apart from the work for Youth Theatre, and the One Man Shows, the most substantial plays Jonathan has written are “Heroes”, which was selected by Script for further development with a dramaturg, and “The Fate of Franklin”, which was performed in the Newhampton Arts Centre (Wolverhampton) in 2004.
“Heroes” is a full length four-hander - two men, two women, all aged around thirty. It is set in the late 1940s, in a seaside town. Bill and Grace are recently married, and expecting their first child. Grace’s sister, Marjorie, is almost as excited as the couple. Then Charlie turns up. He knew Bill during the war, and knows a number of secrets about him that he may, or may not, reveal. The play contains strong language and scenes of a sexual nature.
“The Fate of Franklin” is a shorter piece, for performance by a woman in her forties. Angela is attending a Family History class at a local college. She has a number of lurid tales about her own past to tell - but the truth is slow to emerge.

Jonathan has also written a number of short pieces with New City Playwrights, the Wolverhampton based play-writing group. NCP have had work performed at the Arena Theatre, the Hayward Theatre, the Newhampton Arts Centre, Bantock House, and, most recently, presented a series of short plays (inspired by artworks) at Wolverhampton Art Gallery, as part of the celebrations around the opening of the new Pop Art room.
